This trike horse, also known as a velocipede, is a beautifully crafted piece believed to be from the late 19th or early 20th century. Featuring a carved horse body with working tricycle mechanisms, this toy was once cherished by children as an early riding toy, often modeled after the carousel horses of the time.
- Height: 40 in.
- Length: 48 in.
- Width: 23 in.
The trike horse shows its age in a few areas, adding to its authentic charm:
- Half of the right ear is missing.
- Strands are missing from the tail.
- The paint is worn in some areas, though the dappled paint is clearly visible.
- The wheel rubber is worn off in some places, but the mechanisms remain fully functional.
The American Carousel Museum in San Francisco suggested this to be a rare Parker trike horse in a letter to the owner dated 1990, although no official verification has been made.
Currently it resides in San Jose, CA.
