Raising Multiples: Triplets, Twins and a Single…Life Is Crazy!

I am a mom, a stay at home mom to be exact.  I worked outside of the home until I was 6 months pregnant with my triplets.  Adding triplet boys to my current family of 5 was enough to push me into leaving my job outside of the home and committing to raising my 6 children.  It has now been almost 4 years since my transition and there are days when I don’t really know what side of the fence I prefer.

My days lead into the nights and things never get completely done.   I clean and pick things up all day long to have a trail of destruction following me.  The word “mom” is used way too much and by 5pm I cringe when I hear the word.

Television is today in an era dominated by violence and adult language making it hard for concerned families to find channels that they can depend on to avoid the use of anything that may be offensive or unsuitable for young eyes. Therefore, most movie channels are automatically excluded from the list of top ten TV channels for an entire family but here is the top ten list based on popularity on a global scale.

How To Ensure Your Child’s Birthday Party Is a Day To Remember!

Anyone who’s ever been a parent and is now lucky enough to have children old enough organize their own parties will be reading this with a smug sense of, well, smugness. ‘I certainly am very lucky I don’t have to do this anymore,’ they will be thinking. And how right they are. Organising a child’s party is something of a menace – unfortunately, it’s not as simple as ferrying a load of eager children to a holiday park or theme park, and letting them be entertained by a long-suffering (but talented) teenager in a costume. These days, childrens’ parties have to have certain panache – here’s how to get the balance right…

Make sure that you’re on good terms with the other parents, and ask them about dietary requirements, and anything else about their children that they should know about. It’s also best to let them know what you’re planning – if, for example, you’re getting a clown involved, you may find out too late that one of the kids has a deep-rooted fear of the painted cretins. It’s always best to plan ahead. Talking to parents means that you can also find out about any allergies – but don’t base the entire party around one child. Too bad if one child hates chips – as long as he won’t suffer a life-threatening reaction to them, they’re on the table.

Reclaimed Wood: Sustainable, Beautiful and Unique

Hidden in the waterways of the southern United States, and in old warehouses, among other sources, is a treasure house of lustrous hardwood; antique heart pine. Huge longleaf pine logs, some up to 20 feet long, were sunk in the waterways on their trip to the sawmills during the 1800s and believed gone forever. But they are still there, waiting and flawlessly conserved.

Beams from the industrial revolution era warehouses are an additional rich source of antique heart pine wood. Existing wood floorings have an extended life span and also can easily be reused. Heart pine floors are in the classic homes of the eighteenth or nineteenth century and are still walked on every day. The appearance of an older damaged wood floor can be entirely improved using stains, faux finishes and inlays. Reclaimed Wood: Sustainable, Beautiful and Unique continued »

Does My Gifted Child Have an Emotional or Social Disorder?

I recently went to a parent teacher conference for my six-year-old son, Cade. His teacher expressed her concern that Cade was having trouble socializing with his peers. She seemed very pleased with his intellectual ability but was very concerned about his social and even emotional skills. I was not entirely surprised to hear this since Cade had come home upset the day before. He told me he felt bad for the other kids in his class because they didn’t understand anything he was talking about. I was surprised at how bad he truly felt for the other children.

Some parents are not aware their child is gifted until they are told by someone else, usually by their child’s teacher. But, I’ve always known that Cade was gifted – he could hold a conversation with most adults about things going on the world (mainly because he overheard the news each night while he played with his toys). I didn’t realize his intellectual abilities would hinder his social skills with other children his age, though.

Top 5 Child Proof Door Locks & Mechanisms

There shouldn’t be mixed emotions when your child takes their first steps around the home, it should be an amazing time for both child and parents. However with the ability to walk comes the want to explore and with exploration comes the inevitable desire to open everything.

For the majority of the time opening doors, boxes and anything else they can get their hands on is a safe and closely monitored activity. Curiosity is after all a key route to learning and developing new skills and no parent wants to put a cap on their child’s ability to learn.

SCAD: Cardio Complication Rising Among Expectant Mothers

It is widely known that the most common cause of a heart attack is fat buildup in the arteries (atherosclerosis). However, for pregnant women, atherosclerosis contributes to only one-third of their heart attacks.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is rare among the general United States population, but cardiologists have expressed they are noticing an increase in reported cases. They have also found that pregnant women (whether peripartum or postpartum) face the highest risk. SCAD most frequently occurs near term or within three months postpartum. What is most alarming is that the condition can occur in otherwise perfectly healthy women with no previous cardiac risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol levels. Tragically, 80 percent of cases occur in women and many die before receiving medical help.
