5 Things Single Parents Should Never Say to their Child

I was 7 years old when my parents divorced. Because of the hostilities father-childrenbetween them, my sisters and I were separated from each other and we bounced from relative to relative staying in different homes until things settled down. They never really did. The change was a traumatic one and led to some instances of abuse. Perhaps your situation is not that severe or maybe it’s worse. I hope not the latter. Every home has different ideas about what a family is but there is a universal truth and that is that we are the parents that are responsible for our kids, not the other way around. Saying the wrong thing to your kids during this traumatic time (and after) can not only lead to some pretty dysfunctional ideas about family but about who our parents really are.

With that said, here are 5 things single parents should never say to their child: 5 Things Single Parents Should Never Say to their Child continued »

In fact, it’s not really anyone’s idea of a good time, but as adults, we learn it is an essential part of our health. Plus, we want our white shining teeth to stay in our mouths for as long as possible. And, obviously, we want our kids’ teeth to do the same.

To take the fear and dread of the dentist out of your child’s mind, there are a few strategies to helping he or she to realize the regular trip to the dentist really isn’t all that horrific of an experience, especially for their first trip to the dentist. Frugal Baby Shower Ideas

It seems thrift is going to be with everyone for quite some time, and if there’s a solid way to save a little cash these days, finding it is an absolute must. Nowhere is that more true than when you’re trying to throw a party like a baby shower and stay on budget. Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can save a little cash and still create an amazing shower for that special person in your life.

The Venue: You can certainly rent out this location or that one, but the chances are good that you’ll have to shell out some extra cash to do that. Instead, it’s best to try to go with a free venue. Have it at your house or the mom-to-be’s place, if that’s possible. You could also ask her mom or a close family member. If that doesn’t work, you may want to look for a free room at the local community center or a nearby church. If you don’t have to pay for the place you’re going to hold the shower, you’re far more likely to have a little money to spend on decorations.

Impact of Divorce on Children’s Behavior Problems

The impact on children of divorced/divorcing parents is devastating regardless of age; however, depending on age, the impact and ways of handling the fall-out can and should vary. Despite age, children suffer many stressors upon the divorce of their parents. Children cannot always comprehend how divorce will affect them and how their lives may change, which can cause them to feel off-balanced and frightened concerning their future.

Many times children will have less contact with one parent or the other, typically the father. They may have to split their time between two homes. Worse yet they may be forced to move from the comfort of their home due to financial difficulties that parents may encounter. This might even involve a change of schools, which is always stressful for kids even under the best of conditions. They may find themselves laden with more responsibility.

How to Stop Thumb Sucking

Many children suck their thumbs; however, most children stop sucking their thumbs by the age of four or five. There are a few tips that will help you deal with this problem effectively such as encouragement, love and a few tricks of the trade. How to stop thumb sucking is not difficult but it does take time, effort and ingenuity.

For some children, thumb sucking that goes on a long time may mean that your child is having an emotional problem and may need to see a pediatrician. This may require dental visits to correct the alignment of the teeth and that means braces. Some have found success by using a thumb guard.
